Qwik Kiwi Open Water Swim Seminars
Qwik Kiwi will once again be offering Open Water Swim Seminars for the 2011-2012 summer in association with the Scorching Triathlons . These courses were very popular last year, so make sure you sign up early.
The first seminars for this summer (2011-12) are on:
- Sat 12 Nov 2011, Scorching Bay, Wellington
- Sat 3 Dec 2011, Scorching Bay, Wellington
These sessions are a perfect opportunity to boost your confidence in the open water, learn some skills and tactics to get you safely and efficiently through your first (or second, third, fourth etc…) triathlon.
Each seminar is 90 minutes long with limit of 10 participants per seminar to ensure maximum safety and attention to your skill and confidence development.
Each session is limited in numbers, for your safety and ensuring you receive quality instruction.
Theory topics covered
- Currents, tides, wind chop
- Swimming in a group/drafting
- Navigation
- Warm up
Practical topics covered
- Turning around a buoy
- Navigation/swimming in straight lines
- Swimming in a group/drafting
- What to do if you get into difficulty
- Safety
What you need to bring with you
- Togs
- Towel
- Goggles
- Warm Clothes
- Wetsuit (optional but recommended)
- A smile and a can do attitude

Level I seminars are designed for beginners and people wanting more confidence with open water swimming. This seminar covers some theory and takes you through open water skills with a practical component. The focus on this seminar is to learn skills and techniques.

Level II seminars are designed for people who wish to move on from the Level I seminar and for people who are already confident swimmers. The focus of this session is building on the skills learnt on Level I combined with a workout.
